I’ve never been a backpacker. Sure I was a good Scout back in the day but hiking over a mountain pales in comparison to what I’m about to embark on. Travelling to a different country that is across the other side of the world, where they don’t speak your language is as far removed from my comfort zone as possible.
Helping me get some perspective on what backpacking is was a post by Nathan & Sofia of aswetravel.com fame. Their post on What is Backpacking was a great write up on the different types of backpacker’s floating around the world.
Then more recently their post on Basic Hostel Manners hopefully hits home the fact that just because your abroad, it doesn’t mean you can forget the basics on etiquette.
For now I can only dream about my life of living in hostel’s and having to deal with noisy dorm room buddies. I won’t be dreaming for much longer thought, departure day is only 15 days away.

Aghhh you’re so close and to think when we first started chatting, both our trips seemed so far away. You’re so ready for this and I know you’ll have a great time. Meeting you in Melbourne, you’re easy to get along with and fun to be around. So just take advantage of everything. Don’t sweat the small stuff and have fun! Can’t wait to read about your adventures abroad.
