We all travel, some for pleasure, others for work and even more for the night life. But how many travel and stop to volunteer? and then how many people travel, volunteer and want to run a marathon or two while they’re at it huh?
Yeah pretty unique eh. Well Laura from www.awanderingsole.com is doing all three. She’s actually not long finished the Rome Marathon and has a few more planned before the end of her trip.
Laura is doing all this running for a good cause and you should check it out, I mean we can all spare $5 right?
Oh and the volunteering well she’s off to help out at an orphanage in Kenya again. Right now you have to be thinking to yourself, OMG this gal’s freaking amazing right? I bloody well hope so cos I’m pretty much flawed by her actions. One of those I’m not worthy to walk the same ground as her kinda moments.
Reading over Laura’s blog makes my trip seem pretty selfish. I’m just out there for me, looking to see the world and have a few beers as I go. I now hope I can work some volunteering into my plans even if small because it all counts.
Do you volunteer? would you? have you? I’d love to hear your thoughts oh and please check out Laura’s blog, as a personal favor to me. You can find it here www.awanderingsole.com
Hi Chris, Lately I have been thinking about volunteering abroad for my next trip so it’s cool that you are showcasing this blog today. I really like her site. There are so many volunteer opportunities out there that it can be overwhelming but I’m learning a lot right now and sifting through the options.

Hey Joya. I haven’t had a good look at what I could help out with in Europe but need to get onto it. Have you come across any good options yet?
It can be pretty overwhelming but I just joined Tripatini and they have a group called ‘Volunteer Vacations’ that you can join and they have a list of websites providing different opportunities. I also just finished reading this book called “The Voluntary Traveler” that I am going to do a review on and post in a couple of weeks on my blog over at Wanderlust and Lipstick (http://wanderlustandlipstick.com/blogs/wanderingbooklust/) and it is a very good resource. The first half has narratives of personal experiences volunteering abroad and the second half is descriptions of around a 100 organizations and gives details on time periods, fees, and types of jobs. I hope this helps!

I know Sabina. Really awesome thing Laura is doing I can’t commend her enough.
Wow this is so ambitious.
@joya I’d love to hear your thoughts on volunteering once you sort things out, it’s something I’d love to do on the road but I haven’t researched it well enough.

Hi Ayngelina. I know right so ambitious and giving to everyone.
I’m thrilled to be featured for Travel Blogger Friday and am excited to hear that you might now be working some volunteer plans into your trip. It’s rewarding and a great cultural experience where you get to know the locals. If anyone has any questions about volunteering abroad I’d love to hear them! You can contact me on my site or post them here. Hopefully I will post some more info on volunteering soon. Happy travels!
Hey Laura, how could I not feature you with all your doing. I can’t wait to follow along with everything else you get up too. Would love to catch up somewhere along the way if our paths cross.
I think we may have talked about this before and thought we were going in opposite directions, but with travel you just never know! Plans always change…

I think we did too. I’m just hopeful that something happens along the way and we can catch up.
I want to catch up with everybody I follow at some point. So if its not now then it will be later on.
Very inspiring! Can’t wait to check out your blog Laura. Keep up the amazing work!!!

It’s great isn’t it. Thanks for the comment as always Andi.
Great article, Chris! It proves a great point – it takes creativity and passion to combine travelling and volunteering into a meaningful contribution to the world. I’m truly grateful to discover your blog, brother.
