It’s funny to think but I’ve actually been on the road for about 25 days now. That means I’m hitting the turning point in my trip and will begin winding my way back towards the UK and towards a job (I hope). It certainly doesn’t seem like that long, but true enough my current adventure has reached the point of where I need to think about working again.
Lucky for me Jane of www.runawayjane.com recently compiled a Top 3 Cities to Base Your Working Holiday in the UK post which only further pushed my desire to not work around London for the entire 2 years I live in the UK. It has baffled me that so many people who apply for the UK Youth Mobility Visa stop in London and never see the rest of the country. Especially for Australians who have flown half way around the world, why see just one city?
Another post I read a little while back of Jane’s was on the Trans-Siberian Rainway. I’ve loved the rail travel that I’ve taken across Europe so far. You get to see so much more, move about freely and for backpackers with heavy packs the train delivers you right to the center of town.
While my European train travel is great I can’t help but be very jealous that she may be taking the journey from Europe to Asia entirely via train. I’d love to hear from anybody that has taken that journey and what they thought of it.
Train travel is the best way to get around Europe, hands down. As you say, it provides you a lot more freedom, flexibility, and I’d say comfort as well! The perk of being dropped in Paris City Center as opposed to Paris Charles De Gaulle is worth heaps.
Exciting you’re starting to think about work already. I know that feeling of enjoying the travels you’ve been on, but looking forward to making a bit of cash as well.
UK City: I’d vote Edinburgh without a doubt! You’ll be there for the Fringe … best time of the year in Scotland. Long days, little darkness, and plenty of time to take in Edinburgh’s finest drinking holes.

Your right Matt. Flying into Charles De Gaulle and catching the train to town was much more hassle than it was to get the train from coutry to country so far. I’ve got bus’s for the Baltic region so will be interesting to see how that goes.
Yeah well while the money situation is going well for me I’m starting to miss work as strange as it would seem. My visa for the UK starts middle of June anyway so have to get organized.
I’m loving the long days here the baltic so edinburgh sounds like a good place to be.
Feels like only yesterday when you started the jounrey.

Tell me about it Todd. I sat down and couldn’t believe I’ve been gone this long already. Time flies when your living the dream.
Thanks for the lovely mention in your post! I’ll also be about Edinburgh for the Fringe! Give me a shout if you want to meet for drinks and i’ll take you round my old haunts before I depart for Siberia! 🙂

Your welcome Jane. Meet up sounds like a plan to me, I’ll be in the UK from June by the looks of it so it has to happen 🙂
