The Dead Sea Israel

Israel Dead Sea

The Dead Sea forms part of the border between Israel on the east and Jordan on the west. Sitting some 400 or so meters below sea level it is known as the lowest point on earth. Swimming in this body of water which is some 8 times saltier than the ocean is an experience you have to enjoy.

Imagine being unable to sink no matter how much you try. Just remember to abide by the warning signs and don’t immerse your head, dive into or drink the seawater. I have also been told not to fart in the water for similar reasons but I wasn’t game to test that theory myself.

“Don’t fart in the water?” That’s just bizarre, that the salt levels are that high!

Great photo! Why aren’t you supposed to fart in the water?

Also intrigued as to why you are not supposed to fart in the water?! Spontaneous human combustion maybe? ;o) Dig those umbrellas!!

OK so the reason not to fart in the water ( so I was told) is because of the high salt content of the water. Just being in the water stung under my arms and other sensitive areas like where I had shaved that day. So the reasoning for not farting is because while you let something out there is the chance something might go back the other way and when the salt water was stinging just under my arms you can imagine what it would be like in other areas of the body….

[…] less scenic, unless rocks are your kind of thing. Something almost expected thought given the Dead Sea is down that way and as it’s some 8-9 times saltier than the ocean I know if I was a plant […]
