This past Monday morning I was lucky enough to be interviewed by the lovely Gillian from Perth’s ABC Radio in Australia. Discussing my favourite 5 places I’ve seen in Europe so far as well as getting my thoughts on solo travel. I’mย extremelyย thankful to Gillian, Rachel and Rosemary at ABC Radio for the opportunity to share my thoughts and hopefully convince some would be listeners that solo travel really is a great experience.
Now for those of you who were still asleep when my interview took place (a nice and early 7:30am London time) I’ve attached the full un-edited edition (with thanks to ABC Radio Perth) for your listening pleasure.ย Let me know your thoughts (only the nice ones) on how I went for my first ever radio interview. Oh and yes I know my name isn’t Chris Smith but hey I could always change it right??

WOOOO!!!!! Congrats soon-to-be-Smith-family-member.
Great to finally hear the interview! Can’t wait to visit some of the places you’ve listed. ๐
haha thanks Nicole. And yes get out there and see all of those places I had fun in all of them.
Great interview mate! Pity about the name mix up but you really epitomised solo travel well for those back at home.
I definitely think more people in their everyday routines need to be given the swift kick up the arse to travel. This notion that you need to do it with someone/in a group needs to be dismissed so people break out of their comfort zones and increase their self confidence.
Cheers Justin. Not to worry about the name thing as I might just have a second chance for them to get it right if things go my way.
Your point is spot on, travel doesn’t just need to be in a group. Get out there do it solo and your future self will love you for it.
Marvellous stuff mate, you pretty much managed to sum the perks of solo travelling but yeah, agreeing with Justin, you must be a household name by now. These guys from ABC Radio getting in touch with you must be an indication that travelling is getting the awareness and popularity status that it deserves.
haha Dylan let’s not get carried away with the praise. I was just happy to help promote solo travel and hopefully convince other’s of taking the leap like I did.
Sweet interview, mate! Your sounded great.
Thanks Lauren. Was so excited to have the opportunity to do it.
Great Interview! You are a STAR!!! (with the wrong name haha) But OMG that old dear did waffle on at the end and the call ins talked nearly longer then you, haha they thought it was their opportunity to be a star too! lol
hahaha Sasha I missed hearing the callers as I had to get to work so only just listened to it last night. Was good to hear about their solo travels with a couple of good tips in there amongst all the chatter ๐
That is most certainly awesome news. You’ve broke out of the blogosphere and into the (what’s above the blogosphere!?) Anyways congrats, curious to see where this takes you!
Thanks a lot Rob and yes I guess I have managed to escape the travel bloggers world if only for a short time at least.
Congrats for the interview mate! Sorry to hear Paris is not in your top 5. We’ll change that next time you come hopefully ๐
haha thanks Alex. Honestly I would have said every place was number one for a different reason but I wasn’t allowed. I’ll have to make it to Paris soon to catch up with you all as I’d love to get back. Maybe book in a weekend this summer.
Great interview Chris. I was once on Triple FM in Sydney for a radio competition, my claim to fame ha ha.
haha Fran mate you top me then.
I am so entertained right now. Being able to hear you really adds depth to your posts and helps me get a better idea of how you see things and the voice that you look to project through your writing. You could be trying to explain trigonometry to me and I wouldn’t complain. Just keep talking, never stop. I can’t help it, I’m an American fascinated by accents and one of my favorites is Australian!
Also, hurray for Italy! I’m hope to visit someday…And potentially never leave if I can avoid it.
Right Aleida so you are the one that keeps playing the interview over and over again are you ๐
Mate this is incredible! I’m so proud and excited for you!!! Big hugs!
PS You have the best accent ever.
Thanks Andi. Seems like it was a great opportunity to put my aussie accent on display lol
Congrats Chris!! thats pretty awesome!! ๐
I was waiting for you to say that Copenhagen was your favorite place though ๐
That lady that called in after you tried to steal the show she wouldn’t stop talking! hahaha
lol Cailin I’m not sure we could add Copenhagen to the list as it did take a big old chunk out of my travel budget.
Congrats Chris!! thats pretty awesome!! ๐

Love hearing you!! I know the accent well by now, but it was great fun to hear you ๐
You reminded me why I want to return to Berlin!! Maybe I’ll make a return visit after London this summer. Missing the Ampelmann ๐
haha Heather. I forgot to get an Ampelmann t-shirt when I was there last so have to next time ๐
Great interview. I loved hearing about your top 5 places, a couple of them I would have never really thought to visit.
You’re kind of a big deal ๐
You’re getting big, nice interview!
Good interview. It seems TV & Media often have these name mixups… Glad you’re out there promoting solo-travel!
Great to hear the interview and props for getting on Aussie radio mate. Well done!
