Before I departed Australia for my journey to Europe I sent off some lovely care packages of vegemite to some friends abroad. I had high hopes for my friends to really embrace the experience and found myself eagerly waiting for them to try it.
One friend was Candice from www.candicedoestheworld.com who was nice enough to make up a video of the experience for everyone.
You can find the post she wrote about it over on her blog and I have included the video here for everyone’s viewing pleasure. But enough of the waiting lets see what Candice thought of my favourite spread.
Right… while I’m not so found of the baby poo reference I will give her top marks for spreading it so thick and surviving. Like other new vegemite consumers you need to remember not to spread it like you would your peanut butter or jam. Also it won’t spread like them either, so just spread a thin layer across the toast as best you can and tuck in.
It would appear I have lost this battle but I will continue my journey to spread vegemite across the lands. If only my lovely hostel friends weren’t so camera shy…
Loved this video. What can be so bad about Vegemite? If Australians love it, why not the rest of us?
That’s exactly right Sabina what can be so wrong with it when so many people love it already 🙂
I really want to try Vegemite. No, I’m not crazy but I just can’t even picture what it would taste like. Maybe if you make your way to italy Chris I can try it. Love Candice’s faces in this vid.

Suzy if I can make it down your way before heading to the UK I’ll be happy to let you try some of mine. When do you get over here as I’m heading Italy way very soon.
I’ll be in Florence on June 9th! Let me know if you’re in the area

In that case Suzy I’ll be seeing your real soon. I’m looking at doing Krakow, Prague, Munich then Florence. Not sure what after that as it might be time to find a life in the UK.
because its yucky!!!!!!!!!!! Think about beer. yummmmm beer. and then think about how they make it – lots of fermenting and stuff eeewwww. then think about what mush must be left over after making the beer. that my friend is vegemite! beer leftovers pretty much! eeewwww Aussies only love it because their parents force feed it to them as babies and they grow to love it before they have their own opinions haha. However it is suppose to be very good for you as it is high in vitamin B which helps produce red blood cells!!! (or something….) haha Love ya Chris! 🙂

Oh Cailin, see its good for you so you have to eat it. Doctors would prescribe it to parents for their babies to improve their health so we weren’t force fed at all 🙂
There’s been a jar of it on the breakfast counter all week and I keep going for the peanut butter O:-)
I’ll try it eventually. Good for Candice for being your next victim!!

Shame on you for not trying it Heather. Your in living in Australia now so you have to appreciate ALL that the country has to offer you know.
Hehehe, hope I didn’t offend you, Chris! I’d seriously try it again if someone showed me how to do it properly. Several people also recommended cheese.
And Cailin, beer is DELICIOUS!

haha Candice I’ll be happy to give a demonstration at some stage. It is good with cheese yes and just as a snack on dry biscuits as well.
LOL. Aside from Candice’s expression, the litter of empty alcohol bottles made me giggle. Is this Candice’s life?? In that case, I want it. 🙂

Ah, unfortunately the camera didn’t capture the wall of empty beer cases just sitting beside the empty vodka/rum/whiskey bottles. Oh yeah, and there’s homemade wine brewing in the other corner.
