A Change In The Air

A Change In The Air

If anybody has been following me for awhile you might know my original travel itinerary was to leave Prague and stop off in Vienna for a bit before turning for Zurich and onto London. Well you can forget about those plans my friends as now I’m off to Munich, you know the place of BEER!!!

OK I’m not just going here for beer, its so I can get myself down to Italy. More specifically, to Florence where a couple of awesome travel folk that I’d been talking to since the beginnings of my blog convinced me to detour too.

The new plan was to spend 3-4 days in Munich before ending my current travels in Italy. Unfortunately with last minute decisions can come problems. The problem I faced, was a huge car event going on in Munich had sold out most of the accommodation leaving me with just 2 nights instead of 4.

First up though was the 6 hour ride from Prague which ate into most of the first day’s exploring opportunities. All this means I had a day and a bit to see what I could of Munich which would never be enough for a beer man like myself, but I was going to have a red hot go anyway.

Dumping my gear at the hostel on arrival I headed straight back out to see what I could and get a lay of the land for tomorrows explorations. First impressions… pretty darn cool.

Deciding to skip the pub crawl the first night and take it easy, I rested up as my laundry spun and the beer from the hostel reception slowly flowed. Tomorrow I was going to tackle the town and attempt to fit in the following:

  • Munich Free Walking Tour
  • See the Hofbrauhaus
  • Attend a Pub Crawl ( and drink at least one stein)
  • Check out the Glockenspiel
  • Check out how Hitler began

A respectable list of activities for the day I thought. Surviving the pub crawl was key as my train to Florence was early the day after and missing that would not be good.

Munich is the only city I have been on on each one of my four trips to Europe. I love it! If you want to see a beer hall a little less touristy than the HofBrau, check out the Augustiner Beer Hall, it’s only a 10 min walk from the train station! Anyway, Prost!

Hey Scott, thanks for the comment. I’m actually hoping to check out a few beer halls come Oktoberfest this year if I can manage it. I’ll just need to factor in a few extra days to explore as once the beer starts I don’t think I’ll remember much.
